Romantic Autumn Wedding at Cheekwood Gardens & Estate in Nashville

This wedding was infused with autumn colors with surprising pops of blue-grey, to keep it fresh and modern. We toed the line of romantic and rustic, something that you’ll rarerly see from Read Event House, but it all came together so well. Cane back chairs, luxe linens and lush florals elevated this intimate affair and the result is magic.

Emma and John found each other late in life. On their first date, 7 years before their wedding day, they toasted “to those who are not and cannot be with us.” They have done this toast every time they share a drink. As time went on, the toast shorted to: “aren’t and can’t”. Both phrases are reflected on their cocktail napkins.

Although Emma was born and raised in Nashville, she and John had been living in Portland, Oregon for the past 5 years. An outdoor ceremony was top priority for these two so they selected Cheekwood Estate’s Howe Garden for their ceremony. John’s brother and Emma’s lifelong best friend were their two attendants. Emma walked herself down the aisle wearing a Dany Tabet gown and a bridal cape by Nashville-based designer, Alice and Mae. A brass band led the newly married couple, and all 80 of their friends and family in attendance, to cocktail hour where guests enjoyed champagne, gulf shrimp and a raw oyster bar. Half Brass band continued to play throughout cocktail hour and eventually lead everyone into Cheekwood’s Massey Hall (playing “When the Saints Go Marching In”, of course) for a three-course family-style meal. A relaxing, intimate dinner was very important to Emma and John. The wedding was infused with beautiful letter press and calligraphy by White Ink Calligraphy wherever possible.

John’s, mother, and accomplish painter, created a beautiful piece of art that represented John, Emma, Emma’s late mother, and several other dear family members they’ve lost over the years. This piece was on display at the reception and  White Ink Calligraphy did such a great job pulling this image into the invitation suite.
