Noni & John: An Intentionally Minimalistic June Wedding in Tennessee

John Fisher caught Noni Hill’s eye at freshman orientation. She tried to get his attention, to no avail. Noni fell hard and, before long, she and John were dating. Eight years later, he proposed and there was only one choice for their wedding location: John’s hometown, the college-town where they met and fell in love.

John and Noni had a short, Episcopal ceremony with 230 guests, 8 bridesmaids and 9 groomsmen. Immediately following, the couple walked through a whimsical walking trail that traverses through campus, to the reception: a tented event on the lawn of an historic home.

John and Noni wanted their event to feel modern and fresh. As a couple, they are laid back, comfortable with each other, and so fun. Bringing the elements and their love of nature into their day was important to them. Their no nonsense attitudes translated to their simplistic garden wedding reception. They wanted guests to dine beneath the beautiful oak trees and dance to Asheville-based funk band The Business. The wild, whimsical ikebana florals of pastel and orange were the star of the night with clean, white panama linens with antique glassware. Noni is a nutritionist and wellness coach so the food was not only healthy but incredibly delicious! Steak with chimichurri, herb roasted chicken, warm farro with nuts and radishes, broccolini and potatoes with lemon zest paired well with bright summer drinks like Campari spritz and gin and tonic.

After dancing nonstop for three straight hours, Noni changed into a floral shorts jumper and vintage shoes for one last dance. The night ended when the new Mr. and Mrs. Fisher rode vintage bicycles down the driveway while guests threw birdseed.
