My Personal Style
To define my personal style, I have to tell you what I’m about.
I’ve always loved history. I love owning family heirlooms, flipping through my parents old yearbooks and boxes of photos. I have lived in several homes built in the 1930s and I am fascinated with the roaring 20s, WWII and The Great Depression. The Great Gatsby, The Nightingale and Les Miserables are my 3 favorite books! While Wes Anderson films and Star Wars are my favorite movies, my all time favorite is “Lars and The Real Girl” starring Ryan Gosling.
I’ve been a fan of live music since high school and I married a musician who loves Jimmy Eat World as much as I do and we’ve seen them live at least 5 times.
My home is decorated with sturdy furniture, some of which are antiques that have stood the test of time. I have two young sons so the textiles but be durable and washable. I kept my sitting room light and airy and we removed all window coverings because we dont have a need for privacy in this room. I am a plant-fanatic and I have a lot of plants. My favorites are snake plants but pothos are taking over. I run an art show and I’ve started collecting art. I have original art from friends and I’m starting to collect small pieces from artists I like. My favorites are Chanel Kreuzer and Canadian artists, Julia Veenstra and Jennifer L. Mohr.
When I design for a client, I get to know what they are all about. I aim to create an event that tells their stories with little (or big) nods to their heritage, home and history. I’m not afraid of colors or pattern mixing and I love to try new things. My favorite colors are pink and black (but not necessarily together because that sounds like a nightmare from 2006).
Do we have anything in common? Tell me about you!
